It’s happened again. This time in California. A crazy guy with a gun killed 7 people, plus himself, but his death is no loss to humanity and probably just as well.
I’m not going to talk too much about the gun. He owned it legally, which perhaps he shouldn’t have. He wasn’t technically crazy, although he had something called “High Functioning Asperger,” which I think is what we used to call being super nerdy.
Elliot Rodger, World’s Biggest Asshole
The thing that makes this incident different from Sandy Hook, or Columbine, was the motive. Elliot Rodger couldn’t get laid. Couldn’t get a date. Couldn’t even get a little feel. So, he hated women and wanted to kill them all. Actually, maybe that’s not so different. The kids in those cases were also extremely unpopular so maybe there was an element of sexual frustration there, too.
But here is the part I don’t get. Elliot Rodger was a reasonably good looking 22 year old kid. He had money up the Wazoo and his Dad is a Hollywood big shot, who works with Jennifer Lawrence. If that wasn’t enough to get him laid on a college campus, where the liquor flows freely and everybody’s looking for love, or just a good time, then he must have had a personality problem that girls could sniff out across the room, because he certainly had the superficials.
It’s a vicious circle. Girls can see that he’s crazy, so they don’t go out with him, and that makes him crazier. So, perhaps it’s an inevitable tragedy.
And perhaps he shouldn’t have had a fucking gun.
