I Had a Dream

Let me just preface this by saying that I know very little about computers and still less about computer games, I’m a bit of a technophobe, some might say even a neo-luddite, which may seem a bit contradictory to some since I spend so much time writing this blog, commenting at Huffpo and Wonkette, or browsing facebook, but I can live with the contradiction.  I am not a doctor but I enjoy using my body for things like walking around and breathing, I am not a farmer but I enjoy eating.

So, last night I had a dream.  It started off in a big house at the top of a hill and one room seemed to be sort of an internet cafe and my old friend from Los Angeles John Roundtree was there and trying to get me to play some game, which is easily understood because I have occasionally received invites from him to play stuff like MafiaWars and Farmville, which I totally ignore.  Then somebody said “Oh, no, we’ve destroyed the world” and I looked out the window and said “No, you didn’t,” but I wasn’t sure so I went outside and walked down the hill to the river, somewhere along the Vltava embankment and night was falling and it looked a bit like this picture which I posted the other day on my facebook page and as I walked along I ran into my old friend Dave JorgensenPhoto

who lived in Prague about ten years ago before moving back to the States and he had a beard now and said he’d just come back from Jordan, he was working as some sort of international spy and then we were sitting in a cafe, it might have been Jordan but it might have been Syria, it was a stone building with no glass in the windows and no door in the doorway, it was a bright day and the landscape outside was rather bleak and a fat man got up to leave and the bartender yelled at him to settle up and he came back and leaned on the counter and said “I don’t pay,” and jerked his thumb back at somebody else and that satisfied the bartender and the man walked out and I thought “I’ve got a great idea for a game” and then I was back in the house at the top of the hill, and the game was called “Collective Risk” and it was sort of a ripoff of the board game, the idea was to take over the world, or at least the world’s economies and the idea was to get thousands of people playing, give them as much real information about economies as possible but let them play out the scenarios in a fantasy setting (bitcoins figured into this somehow, too, but even in the dream I didn’t understand how) and then, while ignoring the losers, we could follow the investment strategies of the winners but in real  time with real money, and take over the world.

It was kind of a fun dream.

Also, I signed up for Reddit this morning, but I’m not really sure how to use it yet.
