RIP Helen Thomas

I am saddened to hear of the death of Helen Thomas.  Sure, she was 91, and it was her time.  I’m still sad.

She lived a legendary life,  she had a major role in the drama of human history.  Presidents from Kennedy right up to Obama feared her.  They respected her, and some may have even liked her, but they also feared her, and that’s what’s important.  There’s nobody alive in journalism today who is feared by the government.

Helen Thomas - There is no one alive like her

Helen Thomas – There is no one alive like her

Rush Limbaugh?  Bill O’Reilly?  They are all in the field of journalism, but that’s a huge field and they are at opposite ends of it.  Wolf Blitzer?  David Gregory?  Between them, they aren’t half  the man Helen Thomas was.  From the left, maybe John Stewart or Rachel Maddow?  I like them, I think they say the right stuff and they say it well, but there’s the problem.

They are preaching to the choir.  Both sides are just preaching to the choir.  Helen Thomas did not preach to the choir.  She leaves a void and she will be missed.
