B and O

I like Bill Clinton.  I think he was perhaps the best American president since FDR.  Certainly the most entertaining.

I like Barack Obama, too.  I don’t approve of everything he’s done, and I approve even less of some of the things he’s failed to do, but his ability to keep his head when all around him are losing theirs and blaming it on him would make Kipling proud.  He’s kind of amazing, in that respect.

Dang! Doesn't this old windbag EVER shut up?

Dang! Doesn’t this old windbag EVER shut up?

But, I’m not surprised that a new book out (Double Down by journalist Mark Halperin) suggests that they are not exactly the best of friends.   During the 2012 campaign, while actually campaigning for Obama, Clinton would often say to his aides that Obama was “luckier than a dog with two dicks.”

I can just hear him saying that.  And believing it. If you’ve never seen “Primary Colors” you should.  Great movie, and there’s no reason to believe it’s anything other than an accurate portrayal of Bill Clinton.   I thought John Travolta was a bit of a strange casting choice, but he pulled it off O.K.

Clinton, basically, has an extreme case of narcissistic personality disorder.  It’s a pretty common thing among politicians.  He’s a lot like Lyndon Johnson, except smarter and a bit less of a war-monger.

Obama, for his part, once invited a whole bunch of extra people to a dinner because the thought of having to deal one on one with Clinton was just too unappealing.

But, they are professionals, and so they work together.  I’m fine with that.  I’ve also heard tell that Abbott and Costello couldn’t stand each other, and look what they accomplished.

There’s really not much point to this blog.  I just thought the “luckier than a dog with two dicks” line was pretty funny, and wanted a chance to repeat it.
