First, the lesson plan I wrote about yesterday was a moderate success with my 6th grade class. Some people responded enthusiastically, some people I had to force a bit to participate, although I think there were one or two students that actually got it, and if they did I may have put them on the path to actually learning English, and it was a really good day.
Secondly, I am really glad that Epic Rap Battles of History is making new episodes again. Miley Cyrus vs. Joan of Arc had some pretty good lines, but Al Capone vs. Blackbeard was right up there with the greats, like Chuck Norris vs. Abraham Lincoln or Mr. T vs. Mr. Rogers. IMHO, Capone joins Lincoln and Mr. Rogers in the winners’ circle, but watch them and judge for yourself.
In politics, I am totally enjoying the Saga of Robert Ford. He is undoubtedly the most comical non-US of American politician since Silvio Berlusconi. Sorry, Czech people, Miloš Zeman showing up shitfaced doesn’t quite compare with a guy who freely admits his alcoholic blackouts, because, you know, that would explain why he was smoking crack; a man who talks a little too freely about how much pussy he likes to eat, and whose; a man who looks like a butterball turkey with a face painted on it; a man who is living proof that Canada has teabaggers, too; a man who says he would love to run for Prime Minister. (watch him here, knocking a little, old, white haired woman to the floor.)
I laugh, but it is nervous laughter. It’s a scary thought. I don’t actually think he could win, because Canadians are not quite as politically dysfunctional as their Southern Brethren, but it’s still a damned scary thought.
