Dennis Rodman is a buffoon, no doubt about it.
When he was singing Happy Birthday to North Korean total dictator for life Kim Jong Un, the little man with the stupid haircut who can feed his uncle to starving dogs and get away with it (we actually don’t know if that’s true or not, but he did have his uncle executed and that’s entirely bad enough), it reminded me very much of Marilyn Monroe drunkenly singing Happy Birthday to President Kennedy, and we all know what happened to Marilyn.
In the interview with CNN afterward, he reminded me of Kanye West’s famous “Ima let you finish speech” in which he interrupted Taylor Swift accepting an award to rave about what a great video Beyonce had, and the fact that he later admitted he was drunk out of his mind reinforced that impression.
“Lemme tell ya one thing, lemme tell ya one thing, lemme tell ya one thing, there’s one thing I’m gonna tell ya.” He never did get to the one thing. It seems to me he didn’t really have a clear idea of who Kenneth Bae was or what he was charged with.
I used to like Dennis Rodman when he was playing basketball, just because he was so different from all the other players in his personal style. In fact, I thought it was kind of cool that he went to North Korea, and tried to open a dialogue. But, he is a buffoon.
Nobody’s perfect.
