I woke up with a couple lines of poetry leftover in my head from a dream, and they fit in really well with something I’m writing, and a rhyme scheme I tend to use more of, so the day was a success right there.
Helena was already at work, we had a couple of things to complete this weekend, getting my next two poetry books to Create Space and Amazon were in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. But, they’re both written, so, there’s that.
One of them I’m not too worried about, it’s just another book of poetry. The other, 155 Sonnets, I’ve been working on for years and I’m very anxious to get it into print before somebody else writes a book called 156 Sonnets. Of course, there are people who’ve written greater numbers of Sonnets, but most of them don’t rhyme, or keep to a consistent meter, so they don’t count.
Anyway, I agreed to take the kids out for a walk, so Helen could get some work done, so we decided to go to the playground at the top of Vitkov Hill. The highlight of the walk for me was this: there’s an archaeological dig going on just a few blocks from our house – this happens in Prague – and you can’t really see much because they’ve got a blue tarp over the chain link fence all the way around it, and it’s quite a large area. There is quite an extensive complex of brick walls that have been unearthed and it must go back to at least the 15th, maybe the 14th century, because there are buildings at ground level not two blocks away that date back to the early 1700s, and how long does it take for the soil to pile up like that?
Anyway, I pointed it out to the kids (Sam undoubtedly walks by it frequently, Isabel may not have known it was there) and they just said “So what?,” I don’t remember their exact words, but that was the intent. These kids are just spoiled rotten from living in Prague.
Anyway, we had a lovely walk, it’s still a bit cold out but it was sunny and there were bright green buds on some of the branches.
When we got back, I realized that H had been hard at work on the book I cared the less about. Whatever. Some things got done. I’m satisfied with the day.
