“A Blog a Day, a Book a Month and Poetry on the Side”

January 6th, 2010

In the beginning, of course, I will accept all comments and even respond to them.  As the site grows however (if the Good Lord is willing and the creek don’t rise), I intend to get stricter.

Not in the way Huffpo does.  I have no objection to foul language, especially if it is creative, nor to ad hominem attacks.  That’s all  part of open dialogue.  Nor will I, as I suspect they often do, delete comments just because I disagree with them.

Not in the way Wonkette does, either.  Although their infamous banhammer is usually aimed at racist troglodytes, the grip is loose and the sweep is wide.

I have no objection to women who feel a compulsive need to write long essays detailing their sexual history – O Custerwolf, where are you tonight?  Also, I have no objection to people linking to their own blogs (which they refer to as blogwhoring) as long as they are not strictly commercial.  I want to be linked to other people’s blogs, if they are interesting.  As to banning for length, the way they do, I’ll try to avoid it, unless it’s extreme.  That’s what links are for.

No, if I ever reach the point where I am getting 20 or more comments a day, I will start editing for intelligence.  It’s simpler than it sounds.

  1. Anybody who starts a thread by saying “First!” is a moron, or a child, or perhaps a moronic child.
  2. Anybody who responds to anything with bwaaaahahahaha, or anything like that, is a shit-stirring nincompoop.  They probably also leave their semi-legible initials on bus-shelters.
  3. LOL, ROFLMMFAO, and stuff like that doesn’t really add to much to the conversation, now, does it?  It would be allowed to stand in the context of a comment that actually had some substance to it, but otherwise, WTF?
  4. Lose is the opposite of win.  Note that there is only one o. Loose is the opposite of tight, as in “My pants are so loose they are likely to fall down around my ankles.”  Also, anybody who writes “marshall law” should probably be subjected to martial law.

I will write more on this tomorrow.
