I want this blog to be somewhat more than a diary for public consumption, a recording of each day’s events, but it is that as well.

I want it to be a forum for me to comment on the news of the world, the unfolding story of our human civilization, but it’s also a place for me to put down enough words on paper that somewhere among them there will be nascent pearls of wisdom, little bits of something out of the ordinary which I can, eventually, build a narrative around, and it’s also a place where I can actually practice writing, not just shoveling out the words and hoping they land in the right place but honing my craft, sharpening the tools.

One problem is that time goes by so goddamned fast.  I get caught up and then, well, I only need to write one blog each day and it’s so easy to say I’ll do it in the morning and before you know it I’m 3 days behind again.

So, it seems to me lately that each day is 72 hours long and my life is sliding by at a frightening pace and one of these days I’m going to wake up and be 80 years old and I still won’t have completed a novel.

The summer solstice has passed and it’s still cool and breezy here in the Czech Republic.  I’m not too worried about that.  We will have our month or so of high summer, when it becomes absolutely unbearably hot and muggy, and I’ll be relieved when things cool down again, in September or October.

I just hope that I get something worthwhile written by September, when our poetry readings start up again.
