Three days behind as usual, plenty of other things to do today, I should be distributing the newspapers (headline – Ford and Flockha rt) (favorite story – computer wins at Jeopardy) (most creative part – the Tiki Taky ad) (most significant part -page 8, the ad for our new classes), I need to meet Megan at 11:30 and then Helena and the kids at 12:00 for lunch and then I’ve got them for the afternoon and not going to get much work done there although it’s not as if I’m spending the whole time playing with them, I’m still basically glued to the computer and leaving random, sarcastic comments at Thepartisandialogues.com as if it mattered, and occasionally at Wonkette and even sometimes at Huffpo although I really don’t know why I bother, that is truly like spitting in the ocean.

Am I a good father?  I don’t know.  I do tend to just plunk the kids down in front of the TV or let them play with Lego by themselves while I smoke pot and go onto political message boards , I sometimes argue, loudly, with my wife in front of them which is exacerbated by the two language situation- she screeches and whines for 20 minutes in Czech until I can’t stand it any more, I scream at everybody in English for 2 seconds, but at a significantly higher decibel count (I can do that – I’ve got an extremely loud voice when I want to – it’s a gimmick that comes into play at Karaoke sometimes, but basically it’s a talent whose primary application is inherently negative – like someone who is good at picking locks or beating people up) and suddenly I’m the bad guy.

On the other hand, I love my children very much, enjoy playing with them when I’m actually forced to, would read to them a lot more if they seemed to like it, am interested in knowing what they are interested in but a bit disturbed that Sam would rather watch cartoons aimed at 3 year olds as long at they’re in Czech rather than the History Channel.

He is interested in Greek Mythology now, though, which is very cool.  I remember when I went on my mythology kick as a child.  I was in 5th grade.  So, he’s way ahead of me on that one.

The Travel Channel had a show on the Greek gods and Mythology which emphasized the fact that Greek ‘gods’ are created by people and are personifications of human traits and emotions rather than a holy, righteous creator demanding perfection from humans. Very interesting…
