New Space, Same Old Problem

I went down to our new location the other day, where we will reopen our group courses on Monday.  I had a bunch of maps I wanted to hang on the wall but I’d overestimated the size of the room and underestimated the chalkiness of the flaky paint walls.

That, I think, is symptomatic of this move.  We’re back, that’s good, in a new location, that’s good, we’ve got, seemingly, a generous deal with SPUSA, and that’s good, but I don’t really have any revolutionary method, any grand design of what I’m going to do differently than before, any more games, any more fixed of a plan, and that’s bad.

I’ve had a break from teaching, 6 months off which I’ve spent badly.  I’ve spent a lot of time with the kids and enjoyed most of it, and got some good writing done in that time but nowhere near enough to be satisfied.  Mostly I’ve watched a lot of bad TV, smoke a ton of dope, and spent a lot of time leaving comments at wonkette, huffpo and that retarded right wing infested site I’ve been spending time at lately.

So, Monday is back to school time.  I guess I’ll lead with the billionaire game, but we haven’t even updated that, or ever done what I should do with it which is to divide it into levels for classifying students and devise tests and drills to get through every level so that we have a specific, level by level curriculum which we can give to teachers so that a student at level x will inevitably get lesson y again and again until they get it and move on.  Yeah, that’s the ticket.
