Normally, I write this blog in the late afternoon or early evening, but today I have to post now, at about 3 o’clock Prague time, because this morning our afternoon teacher called and said she was sick so I have to teach this afternoon. In a way I’m bummed and stressed because I’d come to enjoy my free afternoons and I know that if I wind up teaching 8 hours a day I might burn out pretty quick and start resenting my students and get bored with all the time spent in the classroom and overall become a less effective teacher. On the other hand, this will save us money which has become tight recently.
In fact, I think the best thing to do would be to divide the hours between myself and one other teacher (that would be Bubu-nobody else comes close in terms of what he does for the school or how effective he is as a teacher) and then, instead of paying him, make it a partnership and just split the profits.
It might work, it might be a disaster, but I’ll run it by my wife (we’ve already discussed it in vague terms, I think she’s in agreement) and Bubu, who might not like it, because it would mean a loss of income in the short term (albeit with probably great long term rewards) and see what they say.
In any event, something has to change because the school is still limping along the same as before we closed it and I’m not seeing the dynamism we really need for it to become what I want it to be.
