Ground Zero
There are several things that piss me off about this Ground Zero Mosque debate. First, it should not be a debate. They have the legal, constitutional right to have a mosque, and to have it pretty much anywhere they damned please. The fact that some people find it offensive is not an issue. Some people are too easily offended.
Second, it’s not actually a mosque, it’s an Islamic Community Center and it’s not on the site of the old World Trade Center or across the street from it. It is a couple of blocks away. You know what else is just a couple of blocks away? Half of downtown Manhattan.
Third, I hate the term Ground Zero. It fits in with that whole “9/11, we’re at war, everything changed on that day ” mentality, which is nonsense. The sun still rises in the east, people still fall in love and get married, beans still make you fart and Jay Leno is still telling the same stupid, lame jokes he told 10 years ago.
There were holocaust survivors who got over it and moved on with their lives quicker than this.
Fourth, why hasn’t anything been rebuilt on that site yet? It’s not as if they are still investigating the incident. They should be, but they’re not. Are they ever planning on building anything on that site? What did Larry Silverstein do with that $5 billion insurance payment, anyway? Haven’t heard much from him lately.
But, basically, I dismiss the whole controversy because the people who are screaming about it the loudest are the same people who screamed loud and long about Obama’s birth certificate, his use of teleprompters, Michelle’s vacation in Spain (which she paid for herself), Obama’s feet up on the desk (every president has done it), not wearing a flag pin on his lapel, liking Dijon mustard and being aware of a vegetable called Arugula and dozens of other completely nonsensical and irrelevant issues.
They are morons and should not be taken seriously. Ever.
