Before I get into all of the election crapola, I would just like to say that, thanks to the computer expertise of our good friend Bill Karnegies, you can reach this site with a simple http://www.gurukalehuru.com and skip the wordpress. 8 fewer letters, one less dot. It’s progress.
Which is a lot more than we can expect to see out of Washington for the next two years. If the Democrats manage to hold on to both houses of congress, then things will continue along much as they have for the past two years, which is really pretty unsatisfactory.
If the Republicans take the house of representatives, which appears likely, the U.S. government will be effectively shut down for the next two years. Actually, that doesn’t sound too bad, except I’m sure they could all rally together for certain things: to start a war, for instance, or vote themselves a fat raise. But it will be effectively shut down as far as “doing anything worth a goddamn” is concerned.
If the reptilian Americans take the House AND the Senate, which appears very unlikely but is still an outside possibility and a damned scary thought, within 6 months they will have found some bullshit reason to bring an impeachment against Barack Obama. That’s just what they do.
So, it doesn’t look good. I sent in my ballot two weeks ago, but I know that my one vote won’t be what saves Barbara Boxer. She either prevails, and I’ll be happy, or she doesn’t, and I won’t. There’s nothing more I can do. I have written about this election until I’m quite certain people are tired of it and, since I’m not in America, I can’t volunteer to go door-to-door on election day, offering people a ride to the polls.
The other thing is, as much as I argue with friends who are green or belong to other frings parties that they are throwing away their vote, I’m not really convinced that mine counts for anything.
Life will go on. Satellites will not fall down from the sky. Pubs will not close. MTV is not going to stop having stupid reality shows. The roads will not disappear from the face of the earth and the cars will not disappear from the road. The rapture will not happen.
I don’t think.
