Rape, Shmape

This blog is not really about rape, because I don’t believe a rape, or anything even remotely resembling rape, not even by the broadest definition of date rape, actually occurred.  This blog is not about the increasingly obvious stranglehold the  evil monolithic one world corporate government has on us, although it may be symptomatic of that.  This blog is not about Julian Assange, or Bradley Manning, and whether they are James Bond style superterrorists, as the U.S. government and Fox News would have you believe, or brave men who have risked everything to keep the world free from fascism, as I believe.  This blog is not even about Anna Ardin and Sofia Wilen, although they are the principal characters.

This blog is about shoddy journalism.  First of all, when right wing politicians and pundits scream for Assange to be tried for treason, they fail to point out that since Assange is Australian, he can’t actually commit treason against the United States.  When Robert Gibbs (who I usually like, but he’s wrong as wrong can be on this one ) says “it’s good” that Assange was arrested, the reporters should be shouting it to the rooftops “He wasn’t arrested for anything to do with the documents!”  If he’d been arrested for making an illegal left turn, would everybody be just as happy?

And when they do point out that he’s charged with something other than espionage, they refer to it as a rape case.  Rape, my ass.  He was in Sweden for some kind of seminar, gave a couple of speeches, and got lucky with two Swedish women.  Even they admit it was consensual.  Once they found out about each other, they suddenly got real worried about their not having insisted on condom usage.  So, they went to the police to force Julian to submit to a test for STDs.  Actually, that’s not an unreasonable law, but it’s hardly rape.

Hot Swedish Babes Sofia Wilen, left, and Anna Ardin, right

But the real failure of 21st century print journalism is the failure to seek out and answer the questions people want answered, to provide us the information we need to truly understand the story, to enable us to develop informed opinions formed on a true picture of the case.

It’s the old Who, What, When, Where, How and Why?  In this case the who are Ardin and Wilen, and the main question that was burning in my brain, and that of 50% of the population, I’m sure, is this:  Are they hot, or not?  So, as a public service, I looked at google images and found their pictures, which have appeared at least in Swedish newspapers.

As you can see, they are both hot.

  1. I don’t care what they say, I’m totally willing to have non-consensual sex with Julian Assange. Raawr.

“Rape, my ass.”, now that’s great journalism; probably more than a few Anna Ardin’s in the world, anyway.

Amen! And exponentially worse is the broadcast media… The obvious profit motive, overproduced graphics, teasers, and fluff pieces that constantly outweigh the news value give me a really cynical, sick feeling.
