As people who have been reading this regularly are aware, I have pretty strong opinions on a fair variety of subjects. There is no problem of international importance for which I do not have a ready solution. They may not be well thought out and researched solutions, but they are solutions nonetheless.
But I have no idea how to get my kids to sleep. I read to them. I go hoarse and they are as wide awake as ever. Isabel wants to sleep in our room. Sam very often wants to sleep in the living room. I am somewhat upset that we have a perfectly good children’s room that goes to waste. Sam gets jealous because we still let Isabel sleep with us, but she is 4 and he is 8. We tell him he has school the next day and he quite rightly points out that so does she. We yell at him if he gets up, but gently try to coax her back to bed.
Part of the problem is that Isabel is a battery powered yoyo. Sam is pretty energetic, too, but more controlled. Loves football, but can also sit for hours in front of a computer. He just gets pissed off because Isabel is getting off lighter and stays awake just out of principal.
I’m just venting, not really looking for a solution. They’re asleep now and all’s right with the world. Tomorrow’s another day.
