I’m watching a thing on the History Channel on the history of the CIA. I’m pretty sure it’s British produced because the narrator says things like deBAHcle, OOSter instead of ouster and junta with a j instead of an h. Still, they are interviewing all these ex-CIA types who are Americans and it’s pretty astounding.
The things they admit to: Overthrowing Mossadegh in Iran at the request of British Petroleum, overthrowing the Guatemalan government at the request of United Fruit because they didn’t want to pay a banana tax, assassinating Patrice Lumumba in the Congo, the Bay of Pigs (but that was no secret even at the time), several other attempted assassinations of Castro, FAKING THE GULF OF TONKIN INCIDENT, a program of assassinations of civilians in Viet Nam, secret bombing of Cambodia and the OOSTer of Salvador Allende (pronounced with an l).

They also pronounced Allen and John Foster Dulles last name as Dallas, which is rather absurd. There’s an airport named after them that the BBC film crew probably had to pass through.
But I digress, it’s not the funny pronunciations that are at issue. THEY FAKED THE GULF OF TONKIN INCIDENT. Why people think that these people would hesitate even for a second to destroy the World Trade Center in order to provoke a war with Iraq is beyond me. They’ve done things like that before, repeatedly. (for the record, the show didn’t mention the World Trade Center or the attack on the USS Liberty in 1967)
One of the creepiest moments was ex-CIA director Richard Helms talking about the Mossadegh incident (long before he was a director, but still) and saying, “Oh, yeah, Mossadegh was a communist. We did the right thing.” Years of oppression under the Shah leading to the Islamic revolution, leading to the Iran-Iraq war, leading to the current situation and here’s this doddering, old, blackhearted son of a bitch sitting there all smug and self-satisfied with himself for being some kind of a great patriot.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the world would be a better place if the CIA had never existed. There is also no doubt in my mind that the world would be a better place if it were to cease to exist tomorrow.

Surprising they admitted all that, even though most of it was pretty common knowledge. The fact that the CIA was backing revolutions or brutal regimes, that they were carrying out political assassinations and bombing Cambodia, and even that they faked the Gulf of Tonkin is no surprise.
That is not all – they have been decided political and have spied on the American public. I am furious that they killed the Kennedys and they have also supported Nixon and Watergate and Reagan and the Iran Contra deal as well as many, many assassinations that were obscene in Latin America in the name of anti-communism, making communists look better than us in comparison. I think they are what Eisenhower was trying to warn us about in the military industrial complex.
I think the American people should demand to release ALL classified info from the Kennedys now!!! It is an injustice and one of the greatest crimes ever to all of those of my generation that they are trying to wait until we are all dead to release this info. Some that were allegedlly involved have claimed that it would blow this country wide open to expose this assassination info. Yet I’m sure it is to protect many of those that came into power after the Kennedys.
I don’t know why anyone with ANY good in them would cover up for the Kennedy assassination. The information of who did this crime was crucial to the citizens to allow them to protect themselves from these evil doers.
