Berlusconi Trial Update

Well, the situation of the muslim nations of North Africa and the Middle East is developing faster than I can follow and I’ve already written about the situation in Wisconsin twice this week.  There are no really interesting developments in my personal life.  However, my blog recently went way up in the number of hits and I can trace it back to one reason:  Silvio Berlusconi.  Rather, his very hot legislative associate, Nicole Minetti, and 18 year old Karima el-Mahroug, aka Ruby Mahroug, aka Ruby the Heartbreaker, who was only 17 when Minetti recruited her for Berlusconi’s bunga bunga parties, which he holds at his villa which makes the Playboy Mansion look like Chucky Cheese.  In any event, they hold pretty wild sex parties there.

Apparently, my blog somehow got on the front page of Google if you type in one of those names, and I went from an average of about 20-30 viewers per day up to over 900, damned near a thousand on my peak day.  Now it’s slipping back down to it’s old range, so out of journalistic greed, and total gratitude to Minetti and Mahroug, I decided to write an update on the upcoming Berlusconi trial.

If she told me she was over 18, I think I'd believe her

First, an observation:  if Americans would like to know what a Trump presidency might be like, Italy may provide some clues.  Arrogant, hyper-conservative billionaire, with an extravagant lifestyle.  Great entertainment potential, potentially disastrous real life consequences.

So, the case will come to court in April.  Berlusconi has said he’s done nothing wrong and he does not have a record of backing down, so there is every reason to expect this trial to take place.  There are two charges.  First, paying an underage girl for sex.  I expect him to walk on that charge.  Mahrough says they didn’t have sex, Berlusconi says they didn’t have sex and, unless there’s some way of proving sex months after the fact that I don’t know about, that’s an end on it.

Eat your heart out, Michelle Bachmann. This is what a really hot politician looks like

The second charge is that he used his position to get the underaged pole dancer released from police custody on a shoplifting  charge, which he totally did.  Minetti was involved but she’ll probably  roll over on him, because she may be loyal, and have a great rack, but neither of those two things means she’s stupid.  What he did was he told the cops she was Hosni Mubarak’s niece, which seemed like a good idea at the time.  Or he told Minetti to tell the cops she was Mubarak’s niece.  (btw, it’s not actually true)

A couple of other things that somehow make this case peculiarly Italian:  First, the trial will be presided over by 3 judges, all  women, which strikes me as a bit unfair.  Secondly, the penalty for justice tampering is significantly higher than that for being with an underage prostitute.  8 years higher.

He’s rich, he’s powerful and he’s old, so he probably won’t actually do time.  But, we can dream.
