Atlantis Found!

A team of scientists believes they have discovered the site of Atlantis.  It is in Spain, a little bit outside of Cadiz, which is pretty much exactly where Plato said it was.  It’s on land, and not a sunken island, though.  Richard Freund, the leader of the team, says he thinks it was wiped out by a tsunami.  The site was discovered by analyzing satellite imagery.

Maybe once they excavate it, a Stargate will open

It Won't Look Like This

It’s certainly not the first time that somebody has claimed to find Atlantis.  There were the Google earth lines in the ocean a couple of years ago, which turned out to have been caused by Google Earth and not really there at all, there is the stone causeway sunken off Bermuda, and probably more.

Also, they haven’t excavated it yet, so it’s all speculation.  Could be a Moorish city.  Could be a Carthaginian city.  Could be seriously ancient, and then if the historical community chooses to call it Atlantis, so it will be.  Sort of like Troy.  It was thought to be a legend until an archaeologist actually pinpointed the site and started digging.

The way I see it is this:  There are things we don’t know.  Ghosts, Aliens, Legendary Creatures, Ancient Civilizations, Vampires, all that stuff.  Then there are the things we know.  Science, History.  So, if the Loch Ness monster is ever located, if Bigfoot comes out of hiding or if Atlantis is found, then it ceases to be a legend and jumps over to category 2.

It immediately loses some of the magic of unreality, like a flat stone picked up wet on the beach and shimmering in the sun, once you have it at home it looks just like a rock.

In any event, if there is an ancient city there, it’s an important find, a piece of the puzzle, a message from our past.  It may even be the real Atlantis.  But it won’t be the Atlantis of legend.  That’s a myth.
