Bullshit Budget Battle

While Congress and the President argue over whether or not to make cuts to Medicare, Head Start and a whole bunch of other worthy programs, and just how much to cut them by, they are totally ignoring ways to actually solve the problem.

I stole this from Wonkette because it's perfect

Cut the military budget by 50%, stop starting wars with everybody, bring U.S. troops home from overseas and bingo, problem solved.  It would have a bit of a negative impact on one U.S. industry, of course – the arms industry – but they’d survive.  They might have to scramble to diversify, they might have to downsize, but these things are healthy in the long run.

If they want to streamline government and end waste and are looking for a particularly unnecessary agency to ax, they should look to the CIA and not the EPA.  The EPA protects the water we drink and the air we breathe, or at least they try to.  The CIA just goes around the world stirring up shit, killing and torturing people who very often turn out to be completely innocent, and in general making a nuisance of themselves.  Since their founding shortly after WWII they have not, to my knowledge, ever done anything that benefited anybody.  That’s a hell of a record.  Just let them go.  Big savings .

Of course, cuts are great, but it would be nice to raise some revenue as well.  Gee, who could be taxed?  How about rich people – they have lots of money!  That’s why we call them rich.  If they don’t want to pay taxes, there is a real simple way they can avoid it.  That is, they could reinvest some of their profits, instead of just stuffing their mattresses full of $100 dollar bills.  Who knows, as an added side benefit of that, they might even create some jobs.

I hate saying that both parties are equally guilty, because the Republicans are truly evil, but….I’m not real thrilled with Obama lately, either.

I think I would be awfully nice if the Commodities Trading Board, or whatever they’re officially called, would retract the letters provided to Goldman Sachs that allows GS to essentially corner the market on oil, wheat and other necessary commodities, driving up the price – and their profits – but providing absolutlely no added value for the rest of us.
