Why is everybody seeing flying saucers, all of a sudden?

Just saw an interesting stat.  Apparently, UFO sightings have increasedby a lot lately.

They Are Out There

The Mutual UFO Network – the largest privately funded UFO research organization in the world — has announced that more people than ever are reporting unidentified flying objects, mostly in the United States and Canada.

“Over the past year, we’ve been averaging 500 sighting reports a month, compared to about 300 three years ago [67 percent],” MUFON international director Clifford Clift said.

Now, there’s a couple of possible reasons for that.

It’s possible that there have been more sighting because there have been more spaceships, for some reason Earth is in among the interstellar jet set this century.  Maybe they are impressed with some recent scientific advance, maybe they want to just want to get in on some of those Bunga Bunga parties.

It’s possible that I doubt it.  The nearest star is still light years away so, any race that can get to here from there, build a  ship so self-contained that it can cross that vast emptiness without everybody dying on the way, is advanced so far beyond us that they are not going to be particularly impressed with our puny forays into space.  If they have interacted with us at all, it’s we who were viewed as the ignorant savages.

I do believe that there are intelligent, space faring species out there in the universe who will be much more real and believable than the weird species on Star Trek , and that someday we will join that world.  I have to believe that, because the alternative is to believe that the human race will go down with its planet – it may still be a billion years away but the idea that the human race will come to an end, and we shall allow it, is really unthinkable.

So, anyway, I doubt there’s been a spike in actual alien visitations, so what’s left to explain the increase in sightings?  Pop culture induced hysteria? Maybe.  The fact that most sightings take place in North America might be evidence of that.

Speed of communication?  Maybe a part of it.  If you’ve got a youtube of lights in the sky, lots of people are going to see it.

End times theology mixed up with some sci-fi lore for those who really don’t know the difference between fantasy and reality?  Sure, there’s some of that.  38% of all Americans  are dumber that a bucket of shit, and studies prove it.

So, in short, I think they’re out there.  But if they wanted to have anything to do with us, they could have let us know 1,000 years ago.

Seems to me the end of the human race is inevitable. Sooner or later we’ll get nailed by a super volcano, a meteor, the next ice age, global pandemic, gamma-ray burst in the Milky Way, over-population paired with agricultural crisis, experimental accident, etc. Humans tend to take themselves way too seriously, thinking there’s some grand reason why they must go on forever. We fail to reckon with how small and powerless we really are in the grand scheme of things.
