Rick Perry is back on the birther kick. One of the most absurd, thoroughly discredited, baldfaced, malicious lies the Republicans have ever spread about Obama, which we thought had been finally put to rest, and Rick Perry wants to bring it up again.
It is not at all an exaggeration to say that Republicans have stopped even caring about the truth. Rick Perry knows perfectly well that Obama is a U.S. citizen. He knows perfectly well that Donald Trump knows perfectly well that Obama is a U.S. citizen. Yet he repeats the nonsense.
It’s sort of like the teleprompter thing. They know perfectly well that everybody uses a teleprompter. They all use teleprompters. It’s about as much of a negative as saying “He uses a microphone.” Yet, they repeat it.
The Dijon mustard thing. Half of the people who made jokes about that probably have bought Dijon at some point in their lives. It’s not something you have to go to Trader Joe’s to find. And arugula. They might never have heard of it, but if they got some in their salad somewhere, they probably ate it without too many questions. It’s a fairly common leafy vegetable.
It’s like the tie pin thing. They didn’t always wear one, either, and yet they ranted and raved.
It’s really lame, but it’s still scary. I suspect that they’ve reached a point where people cannot take them seriously any more, where their lies are obvious, but then I look again at the headlines. These people are all still in the running, the Republican party still exists, being a Republican is not yet something that people are ashamed and embarrassed to admit to.
Where is the bottom, people? Where, oh where, is the bottom?
