Whatever

Egad, the political  view is depressing today.  There is this, which is worth watching,  especially for the reaction of the young lady sitting directly behind  pro-pollution  congressperson Don Young, and the news that Scott Walker’s people have been actively messing with the recount

Franz Kafka - Not the Greatest Czech Writer, but Probably the Most Famous

petitions, proving once again that there is no low so low where the baggers won’t go.  Also, there’s plenty of fresh fuel to the old rumors that Natalie Wood was killed by her husband.  Of course that’s got nothing to do with politics, it just bums me out.  If people who have buckets of money, private yachts and glamorous lives are so miserable that they go around killing each other, what chance do the rest of us poor zhlubs have?

Still, it’s late, I’m tired and there’s nothing with which I’m terribly inspired, so I’m just going to tell you about my day.

I only taught 3 classes, so I can’t say I’m working too hard, but there were 9 trips by Metro, 3 wardrobe changes for a 4 year old, and a nasty cough.  I’m glad it’s over, but tomorrow will probably be even more frantic, with our school’s annual Thanksgiving party.

At first I thought the cough was my body’s reaction to massive consumption of marijuana, but I haven’t smoked for a week now and it’s not getting  any better so, it’s the weather.  Also, plenty of other people have it, I hear it everywhere I go in the city, and they’re not ALL stoners.

Anyway, got out of the house plenty early so we could stop at the grocery store and get Sam a bag of popcorn.  He was going with his class to see “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” and I see no reason to pay cinema prices for a  bag of puffy carbohydrates that probably costs about 2 cents to produce.  It didn’t take long, so he got to school in plenty of time and I turned around to head to my first class, in the center.  I even had time to do a Sudoku puzzle, but I screwed it up.  That horrible moment when it’s almost done and you realize you have two 3’s, for instance, in the same line.

After that class I had to go back to Sam’s school  and teach but I had 45 minutes to make the 20 minute journey so I stopped in at McDonald’s.  Fuckers have raised the price of coffee.  Anyway, sat and read for a while, Kafka’s “The Castle.”   I read it once when I was much younger but, really, living in the Czech Republic puts a whole new light on things.  Kafka did not need to have as much imagination as people think he had.

Read too long and was actually late for class, which didn’t matter since I wasn’t scheduled to teach it this week anyway.  So,  I sat in the hall and read until it was time for my 1st graders.  I love teaching little kids but, damn…they jump on me, they steal my flashcards, they run around the room…

…and I’m over 500 words and off to bed.  I’ll give you a real post tomorrow.
