Anything You Can Say, I Can Say Something Stupider

Willard Romney may be the worst liar on the planet,  a dull and wooden person  who is out of touch with regular folks, and not very good at giving interviews.  He may have a record of changing his positions more often than I change channels,  but he’s

It was perhaps the stupidest thing any Republican candidate has said in the last 24 hours

nowhere near as stupid as some of the other Republicans in the race.

I’ve been on Herman Cain’s back for a couple of days now, so I won’t belabor the point, but hoooboy, is he dumb.  Then there’s Rick Perry, who said in a recent speech to students in New Hampshire “Those of you that will be 21 by November the 12th, I ask for your support and your vote. Those of you who won’t be, just work hard.”  (the voting age is 18.  The election will be on November 6th.)

With those  two competing with each other for the stupid vote,  poor Michele Bachmann   is  just starved for attention.  So she fired off a couple of stupid bombs of her own.  First was some paranoid drivel about how not teaching creationism in science class is suppression of free speech, which is sort of like saying that not teaching Home Economics in Shop class, or not teaching English in Math class is a violation of free speech, but we’ll leave that aside for now.  She also said  that if she were president “We wouldn’t have an embassy in Iran.    I wouldn’t allow that to be there.”   The only problem with that statement is that the U.S. hasn’t had an embassy in Iran since 1979, when Carter  was president.

She says she was quoted out of context, that of course she knows  the U.S.  doesn’t have an embassy in Iran.  But she wasn’t.  And she didn’t.

So, she may not be quite as boneheadedly ignorant as Perry the Rain King, but she sure is trying.

  1. I totally had a different point in mind when I started to write this, which is how conservatives bravely defend against things that don’t exist, linking this statement to the whole war on christmas thingie and the standard Republican meme of saying that we’re going to take all their guns away, but it just didn’t go that direction and done is done.
