Smitter

I’m relatively new to Twitter- that is, a couple of months.  Since I am a bit of a technotard, I suspect that I am underusing it and it has much undiscovered potential for me to exploit, but there’s quite a bit of garbage to sift through, too.

Yes, I am this shallow

When friends in real life ask me about Twitter, I say it is a medium for those who think that Facebook is just not shallow enough.  That element is certainly in existence.  I have made the mistake of following a few people who have left tweets saying “Please, please, I just need 10  more followers, I will follow you back” and, since I want to increase my number of followers, I say “Why the heck not?”

One of those types had two tweets on my feed today.  The first said “Some guy from my school wants me to give him a shoutout and he has like 10 fucking followers lol fucking no.”  Then he had one just a little further down soliciting more followers for himself.  I think that one might have to go.  Without rancor, but High School was a long time ago, and I don’t need that.

Then there are all the girls with the little blue address thingie under their totally innocent looking pictures that say things like “gangbang 47xxx-info” or “cumshot facial party pics” and they all lead to the same site because yes, I’ve checked,  come on, did you think I wouldn’t?

But their tweets are all innocuous little platitudes like “without humor, life is boring” or “decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it.”  It’s like they’re  taken from a book of shmaltzy quotes and I seriously wonder what demographic they’re aiming at and, also, if these are even real women at all.  Actually, I’m guessing they are not and I should cut them, too.

What I’d really like is a site called “Smitter,” that is, “Smart Twitter.”  The thing is, it really is possible to say something intelligible and even somewhat thought provoking in 140 characters or less.  Or, certainly, to give a brief but accurate description of whatever totally worthwhile thing it is you are linking to.

So, that’s my goal.  Once I clean out some of the rubbish, I should be looking at a pretty cool site.
