State of the Race

Well, I am surprised.  Romney won it.  By 8 votes.  A virtual tie with Santorum.  Paul was behind them by a few thousand votes, close enough to call it top tier, and his supporters are trying to spin it as a win, but it wasn’t.

Farewell, Michele

And Bachmann’s out.  That one surprised the hell out of me.  I thought she was on a holy mission.  I guess it was just a misunderstanding between her and God.  She heard God say “Michele, you should run for president.”  But what God actually said was “Michele, you should be in a mental institution.”

I’ll miss her.  The presidential race just got a little bit less colorful, a little bit less comical, a little bit grimmer.  Without her and Herman Cain, it’s angry white men all the way.

We’ve still got Rick Perry for the comedy.  And Newt.

A couple other things make me think this race is going to get a lot nastier and dirtier real soon.  Newt Gingrich calling Mitt Romney a liar, and Ron Paul calling Newt Gingrich a chicken-hawk.  And neither one backing down.

So, here’s how I see it shaking down.  Romney will take New Hampshire, but Santorum, and Huntsman, might make some inroads.  Paul will pull 20 -25%.

Then comes South Carolina and the wheels fall off the bus, because that’s just the way South Carolina is.  Gingrich and Perry will both have a bit of a resurgence, being the southerners in the race.  Basically, I think everybody that is still in, still has a shot.
