I wasn’t planning on writing this article. I saw the news earlier this afternoon that John Travolta had been accusedby a masseur of coming on to him in a rather crude way, and the guy is charging him with sexual assault.
First of all, it struck me as a he said/he said, especially since Travolta denies the story completely. Everybody talks about Travolta being gay all the time, Tom Cruise, too, (maybe because they’re both Scientologists), but nobody really has proof, they both deny it, they’re both married, they both have kids.
Second, if he says he’s not gay, why shouldn’t I just take his word for it? Why should I want to jump into the outing party, why should I try to break down the closet? What has John Travolta ever done to me? “Look Who’s Talking” sucked pretty bad, but it wasn’t entirely his fault.
Then, a 2nd accusation followed on the heels of the 1st. Same MO, so unless there’s collusion between the masseurs it sounds like Travolta likes going in for a massage, getting naked immediately and flashing the masseur a big old hard on and then, face down, wriggling around trying to get the masseur to stick his finger up his butthole. Of course, the article used lots of words like “erection” and “would maneuver in a way” and “anus,” but that’s pretty much what the complaint said.
With the first guy, he just got naked and said “Hey, dude, let me jerk you off.”
I don’t think they really have a case. Yeah, it was a breach of professionalism and a bit of sexual harassment, perhaps (if sexual harassment is defined as any unwanted advance) but Travolta didn’t rape them or force them into anything except being an unwilling audience for a private live viewing of his dick.
The other point I’d like to make is if Travolta is guilty, then it’s probable that he’s tried this stunt before. Given the fact that some masseurs are gay, and probably all of his masseurs have recognized him and some have been totally starstruck, maybe even some of the non-gay ones, it’s likely that this pick-up routine has worked for him before.
It only becomes sexual harassment if you object to it.
On a side note, in Pulp Fiction…did anybody else notice that whenever John Travolta went into the bathroom, bad things happened?
