I don’t know what Hillary said to the Chinese when she was over there, but it was apparently the right thing. After a reasonable face saving period, like not just letting him fly out on the plane with her like a rescued hostage or something, they put him and his family on a plane a week or so later, which was today.
Another huge diplomatic success for Obama.
Of course, we don’t know what we had to give up in return, but I’ll leave speculation on that to the right wingers, with their suspicious little minds. There might have been something. We are not in this world alone, and sometimes deals must be made.
When Kennedy forced Kruschev to back down and remove his missiles from Cuba, he got total historical credit for big balls, and it’s pretty much totally overlooked, not part of the lore at all, that he had to take U.S. missiles out of Turkey, quid pro quo, which might well have been the whole point of the Russian missiles there in the 1st place.
Most people either never knew about this, or didn’t care. It’s not like we were really getting anything out of having missiles in Turkey.
In any event, a man whose only crime was opposition to the Chinese regime is now released from house arrest and he and his family are now safe and free inside the United States. You’d think everybody would be happy, right?
Wrong. The comment boards on the internet are just filled chock a block with bitter Tea people, yelping about how he’s going to be a drain on the taxpayer and he’s just coming to America for the food stamps or whatever.
Once upon a time in America, a story of a blind political refugee, released from imprisonment, coming to start a new life, would have inspired admiration, would have brought everyone together in a spirit of benevolence and welcoming.
Baggers ain’t having none of that shit.
