Well, I haven’t made fun of Rick (Santorum) Santorum for awhile, because the general consensus is that he’s no longer relevant. He’s not in office, he will never be president. Nevertheless, he’s what they are calling a “surrogate” and he’s out there preaching the Republican cause, so we should probably pay a bit of attention to what he says.
Not a great deal, but certainly as much as we pay to anything Sarah Palin says, and more than to anything Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck say.
Today, in a speech to a conservative audience (well, duh, like Santorum is going to be speaking to a bunch of liberals) he said “We will never have the elite, smart people on our side.”
I am in total agreement, Mr. Santorum. You are on the side of the stupid people. You are one of them. You can feel their stupidity. Smart people are on the side of smartness.
We want smart doctors. We want smart teachers. We want smart scientists, engineers and technicians. And we want smart people in government. That’s because smart people have a better chance at making the best decision in matters of earth-shaking importance with multiple complex variables. Which is what a president does.
The next thing he said was pretty dumb, too, but in a normal politically dumb sort of way. He criticized the libertarians for not worrying about abortion enough and being a bunch of heathen sinners.
I’m not complaining. If the Jesus wing of the Republican party (Santorum, Bachmann, Huckabee and a few others) wants to open up an intra-party skirmish with the Ron Paul brigade, then America (and, by extension, the world) wins.

You go get ’em Willie!
