Well, I didn’t actually watch the debate, not staying up until the wee hours of the morning to watch it live and after seeing the headlines I wasn’t sure I wanted to see it, but just in reading about it it seems like Obama is winning the after-debate. Calling Mitt a liar whenever he lies is a good strategy, because it will remind people of what a lying liar he is.
But, I don’t have much to say about it because, as I say, I didn’t see it, so I’ll just talk about my day. It was a lovely autumn day, the orange leaves are slowly beginning to rain down in their sad but glorious dance of death. After dropping the kids off at school, my 1st class was at 10, the first of 3 brand new classes. So, after sitting in the park just long enough to finish the morning Metro’s sudoko puzzle, I considered walking there and then I considered stopping somewhere for coffee, but then I realized I’d left my schedule at home so things suddenly became a bit more frantic, but I still got there in plenty of time.
My first class was 6th graders, but the teacher met me beforehand and pretty much gave me a step-by-step outline of what she wanted me to do. I hate that. I figure they get to teach the kids out of the textbook every single day. They get me once a week, maybe once every two weeks, they should cut me loose and let me fly. But, it worked out pretty well. The chapter was on birthdays, so it led into a lesson on the months, and ordinal numbers, which are easy and fun.
Then I had 9th graders. This is probably the surliest age in the entire human life span, but they weren’t too bad.
Then, I had a twofer. I started in to teach a 3rd grade class and I got about 10 minutes in when the director came to the door and told me to wrap it up because he wanted me to go teach the 1st graders instead, as that teacher hadn’t shown up.
There are a whole lot of flaky people teaching English as a 2nd language around the world.
1st graders can be a problem, I always forget they can’t read yet. But we had a lot of fun.
I’m happy to be back teaching in a school again. I was getting tired of teaching adults in their offices all the time.
