Time doesn’t fly, time doesn’t march on, time slithers like a snake in the grass, coiling and uncoiling but steadily, inexorably, and only intermittently perceptibly approaching. The American election is only 3 days away. It will be, either way, a watershed moment in human history and, as much as I keep telling myself it’s in the bag, as much as I keep reassuring myself that Nate Silver is putting the odds at 80-20 for Obama, and Nate Silver is generally incredibly accurate, I am nervous.
They are not above rigging voting machines, they are not above anything. They stole Ohio from Kerry, they stole Florida from Al Gore, and they’ll probably try to steal both of them again. If it’s close.
But I don’t think it will be that close. The Romney camp is screwing up badly under pressure. Rogue Senatorial candidates are constantly saying stupid things, Governor Christie has done everything but endorse Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee said anybody who voted for Obama would roast in hellfire (remember back in 2008 people saying that Huckabee was a “good” Republican, a straight talking man of the people?), Republican business owners are threatening their employees with loss of their jobs, which is totally O.K. with Mitt, and today Sarah Palin weighed in.
This is actually rather comical. Her PAC donated $5,000 to Romney’s campaign. Once upon a time that would have been considered a sizable donation. It still would, from an individual. Not really from a wealthy individual. It hardly justifies having a PAC.
In fact, the fact that Sarah Palin had a PAC at all means she was taking donations and, since she’s Sarah Palin, and racist elderly white couples all across America adore her, there is no doubt that those contributions amounted to way more than $5,000. Since Sarah herself is not running for office, where did the rest of that cash go?
It’s a drop in the bucket for Romney now.
