Hooray!

O.K., this blog might run a little longish tonight because there’s so  much to talk about and I don’t want to be talking about the election for the next week, so I’m going to try and pack as much in as possible.  First of all, Baldwin! Warren!  It’s not quite as much the year of the woman as a lot of pundits are saying.  There was also Lingle in Hawaii, but her Republican opponent was a woman as well, and Fischer in Nebraska, but I’d have preferred Bob Kerrey, and I’m very glad Claire McCaskill beat the pro-rape Todd Aiken but McCaskill is not exactly a strong liberal.  With Baldwin and Warren, though, added to voices like Bernie Sanders and Al Franken, I think it will be a more progressive Senate, which is much more important to me than the gender ratio.

Elizabeth Warren talks to supporters about the size of Scott Brown’s penis.

The best news of the evening, to use a storm analogy, is that the Tea Party has reached it’s high water mark, and receded.  Republicans will be very wary of letting any of those types get nominated ever again.  Will they form a 3rd party or fade into well deserved oblivion?  Or,will they continue to fight  for  power withing the Republican party?  From a liberal  perspective, those are three  sweet scenarios.

More than exhilarated, though, I feel relieved.  When I think of how disastrous a Romney administration might have been, it makes me shudder.  And, I fight it shocking that almost 50% of all Americans seem to want that.  We’ve avoided a permanently right wing supreme court.  The dismantling of Social Security and Medicare.  A war with Iran.

One other reason I’m really glad the election is  over is that now I  can go back to criticizing Obama, when he needs criticizing, which is frequently.  He should free Bradley  Manning.  He should close  Guantanamo.  He should fire a couple of people.  He should stop being such a hardass about marijuana.

Colorado and Washington legalized the good herb, Mr. President.  Please take note.

p.s. congratulations to Tammy Duckworth!  So glad we’re rid of that rabid pig  Joe Walsh.
