We are off to the cottage this weekend, that fine Czech tradition which I usually try to weasel my way out of but this weekend can’t because we are celebrating our daughter’s 6th  birthday, which was actually on Wednesday, and our niece’s and nephew’s name days, so it will be a big kid’s party  which is always fun and I haven’t been there for a long time so it’s all good.

But it means I have to hammer out this blog without giving it a whole lot of thought as we plan to be out  of here by 10 a.m. and then I will write  tomorrow’s blog when we get back on Sunday.

Český Ráj

Český Ráj

It’s been cold here in Prague the last couple of days, truly wintry cold where you feel the bite on your skin as soon as you step outside and you hurry to get where you’re going and cancel outside events because you just want to stay in the house.  Maybe it wasn’t that bad, maybe I’m just getting a bit more weather sensitive as I get older and my bones start to creak, but I’m already sick of winter and yearning for the spring.  Also yearning to see the backside of Christmas, which might be a fun holiday except that everybody takes it way too darned seriously.

I expect it will be even colder up at the cottage and I hope there is snow on the ground because that would be beautiful and that is the one thing I like most about going up there, it really is in a very scenic area.  I always take a walk down to the pond, sometimes up to the next village or into the woods somewhere around, and it’s different and inspirational in every different season.

So, the ideal for me would be to visit the cottage for the weekend 4 times a year.  Once in winter, once in Spring, once in Summer and once in Autumn.  The ideal for Helena would be to visit every weekend.  So, we compromise.

That’s it for today.  Have a good weekend.
