Adam Sandler’s Latest Hit

Yesterday, because it was 121212 and a lot of people think that’s worth noting (even though it isn’t, but people are weird that way), a lot of super big rock stars gathered in New York City to give a benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  A nice gesture.

The Geek Report (.net) has this as number 7 on their "Top Ten Movie Fight Scenes" list.

I’m linking particularly to this video because, personally, I think it’s awesome.  I’m a big fan of Adam Sandler.  Sure, he’s made some bad movies (I think perhaps Big Daddy was one of the most incredibly stupid and unfunny movies ever made, it’s   certainly on my Top Ten list) but Anger Management, 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy more than make up for it.  There are still plenty I haven’t seen.  The man has been prolific.

If you want to see Adam Sandler playing a different character than the Peter Pan syndrome afflicted shlemiel he usually plays, you should check out Spanglish.  Really a surprising film.  Intelligent, multi-layered, not stupid…completely different from every other Adam Sandler movie, but it worked.  Of course, it’s also  got Penelope Cruz in it.

Anyway, from most of the comments I’ve read re the concert, the haters are out in force.  They don’t like the idea of Paul McCartney playing with Nirvana because he’s too old and, actually, I’m not going to link to that video because I didn’t think the song was great either but , hey, the man’s 70 years old and he gets up on stage and does new material. He’s not resting on his laurels, and Paul McCartney’s got bigger laurels than anybody in the known universe to rest on.  I’m sure the concert organizers were thrilled that someone of his level of fame showed up and I’m sure the fans were thrilled to be in the presence of greatness, albeit somewhat aged greatness.

And, did I mention that the concert was for charity?

They also complained that Adam Sandler is not the greatest singer in the world.  Damn.  Adam Sandler is a comedian, who sometimes writes some really funny songs.  I loved the thing he sang to Drew Barrymore on the plane on the way to Vegas in The Wedding Singer, and who can forget this.

So, if you want to watch an entertaining video,  and don’t hate Adam Sandler, check it out.  Otherwise, with all due respect, STFU.

I agree. Adam Sandler’s song at the 121212 concert was not an audition for the Grammys, it was a joke, a spoof on the song, “Hallelujah” with lyrics about the NY people recovering from Sandy. Any intelligent person would have realized this performance was not about Adam’s voice.
