files, which Demand Progress’s executive director said was “like trying to put someone in jail for allegedly checking too many books out of the library.” So, Aaron Swartzs was sort of like Bradley Manning, except that he was not military so at least he got a trial. Aaron Swartz pleaded not guilty, but we’ll never know how things would have turned out. Aaron Swartz was 26 years old. Aaron Swartz is dead.
They say it was a suicide, but they didn’t say how he died, or how they’re so sure it’s a suicide. I see two possible scenarios, and both of them are pretty ugly.
First, maybe he realized they were going to totally stick it to him. After all, they have been holding Bradley Manning for 3 years and are just getting around to the mock trial now. They’ve got Julian Assange trapped in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, and he’s an Australian national. Their reach is long and they stop at nothing to punish their enemies. So, he killed himself. Which makes his tragedy similar to Alan Turing‘s. A good man, hounded to death by his own government.
The second scenario is that maybe he was flat out killed, like British scientist David Kelly. I wouldn’t put it past them.
We all know who they are. They are the people who don’t want the information to get out. They are the people who want the secrets kept secret. They are the enemy.
