Last night I was walking along in the snow and my glance was drawn to the streetlights glow, and I thought that’s really no different than the glow of the moon so the glow on a winter’s night has been constant for millions of years and the fact that it’s now produced artificially is just one more image of how the world of man, the world of civilization, is superimposed on the world of the world, the atmosphere, the land, the seas, the fields of grass, the forests of trees, and the forms repeat.
The moon, in fact, is only a reflection of the sun, so both are artificial light in a sense. None of this is saying what I meant to say.
It’s about a link, continuity. Though the source of the light may change, there will be light.
In a few weeks it will be Spring (I love that thought – not a winter person) and there will be lots of birds, in the trees and bushes, singing. But they won’t all be the same birds as last year, each year brings a new generation of birds. And yet the songs sound exactly the same.
Those are just a couple of ideas I’m trying to work into a poem, but it’s not happening.
My take on the news of the day:
Come on, bladerunner dude. You shot her through the bathroom door? And you thought she was a burglar? They should send you to prison for life for stupidity, but they’ll send you for murder, and that’s O.K.
Chris Dorner: How do we know that’s his actual body? Because they say so? I suspect that Dorner is relaxing and sipping rum on an island in the Caribbean along with Jim Morrison and Elvis. (I suspect it’s his actual body)
The Feud between Karl (turdblossom) Rove and Iowa’s Republican Governor Terry Braindead: Good
The Next Pope: Yeah, there has inevitably a lot of jokes, but I’d just like to say this about that: for those of us who (like me) are not Catholic, it’s really none of our business who they choose. He’s not our leader. The Church is not a country.
The Czech Republic legalizing medical marijuana: Excellent! Some days I’m proud of this country.
