Just a few brief thoughts on a few different subjects.
This is already old news, but a few days ago Tony Blair said he thought it was in poor taste that people across Britain were having block parties and such to celebrate the death of Margaret Thatcher. I think Tony saw a foreshadowing of the reaction to his own death. Tough shit, Tony. You picked the side you picked, and you went with the monsters. Hugh Grant, in “Love, Actually” gave the speech you should have given, but never, ever did.
RIP, Jonathan Winters
It’s becoming more common, when a controversial political figure dies, to speak openly about how sorry we are not that they are no longer among the living. Some may say that this shows an increasingly course, uncivilized society, and I can understand their point, but I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. If people spend their whole lives being scumbag politicians, ruining people’s lives and causing death and destruction, they should know in advance that there will be people who dance in the streets when they die and download “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” in record numbers.
Jonathan Winters passed away today. Nobody is happy about that. He was a wonderful man and an incredibly talented comedian who brought joy and laughter to millions. He was 87.
Anthony Weiner is planning to run for Mayor of New York. The Weiner who tweeted his weiner wants to be mayor of a city which is famous for it weiners. I suppose I should support because he’s the Democrat (I really don’t understand why New Yorkers have this strange habit of electing Republican mayors), and I don’t think tweeting a dick pic is really a crime on the same level as being a Republican, but still…I think the Democrats could maybe find somebody else.
My stupid Republican quote of the day award goes to Steve Stockman (R-Texas) who said “If babies had guns, they wouldn’t be aborted.” This wasn’t a slip of the lip, either, not a gaffe or anything- he’s got it printed up on a bumper sticker, he’s quite proud of his logic.
I must apologize to all my friends in the Lone Star State for saying this, but…there certainly seems to be a high concentration of stupid down there.
