It’s that wonderful time of year, Spring is confirmed but not yet complete and every day brings changes, trees have buds which didn’t have buds before, the buds from the trees of the day before are bigger, greener, each day brings forth flowers, more numerous and of more varied types than the day before. Today, I saw them putting together the deck at a restaurant, a surefire sign of Spring in Prague, and I hear the beer gardens are open. Spring has barely begun and Summer is close behind.
We went for a bike ride on Sunday and it was really nice. There’s this system in Prague 8, where they have bike racks and you can take one out, you can get a yearly card or you can set it up over the internet and have a pin code, and you drop it off at any other rack, and it isn’t expensive at all. They are big and green and they have a big spike on the front of them that attaches them to the rack and its like pulling a shopping cart out of the shopping cart scrunch.
Helena and the kids have their own bikes, but I use the big ugly green ones, and I’m kind of proud of Prague, that it has such a cool system.
It was a great day for a bike ride along the river, and from where we live to the wild spaces isn’t far at all. The problem is, those wild spaces really aren’t that wild. We’ve been hiking and biking this path for at least 5 years now and I have never before seen it so crowded. It couldn’t really be freewheeling cycling, because you always had to be conscious of pedestrians and other bicyclists. It reminded me of Marina Del Rey.
Helena thinks it was just because it was the first day of perfect weather. I think the planet’s getting too crowded, faster than we think. More than could be explained by natural increase, although I saw plenty of babies in strollers.
I think aliens (the extraterrestrial kind) have been infiltrating us for years, in small numbers, but it’s gotten to the point where it’s really noticeable. They are bloody everywhere.
