Stupid Stuff on facebook

One thing I really dislike about facebook any more (maybe it was always like this a little bit, but it’s definitely worse lately) is that people just post postcards, little aphorisms on a sign, statements that you might see on a bumper sticker or a T-shirt, and I really don’t see the need of that because if you drive down the road you will see plenty of bumper stickers and if you want to see clever slogans on T-shirts, just go to the mall or any other public place.

I just took a quick glance, and saw an Italian proverb that after the game, the king and the pawn go in the same box, a little infographic telling me I should eat less crap, which stands for carbonated beverages, refined sugars, artificial coloring and processed foods, a couple which were basically just women bitching about how hard it is to be women, and another infographic pointing out the similarities between being Palestinian today and being black in Alabama in the 1950s.  On the internet...

Most of it is true, of course, it’s just that it gets a little bit boring, and there is a rule of irony here, (using the Alanis Morrissette definition of irony because screw the old definition, she wrote the fucking song and that’s that):  if somebody posts something that is actually funny or (which is much, much rarer), enlightening in some way, it gets reposted, and the better it is, the more often it gets reposted, so eventually anything on the internet, no matter how brilliant it is, will become boring and, in fact, the more brilliant it is, the more inevitable that becomes.

Then, I saw this one today and realized I just had to write my blog about it because it is so true, and funny.  But, yes, I am part of the problem.
