Eric Holder is pathetic. He didn’t prosecute any of the war criminals from the Bush administration, and he’s let the banks and the insurance companies and the oil companies and the pharmaceutical companies and Monsanto get away with murder, and I’m not 100% certain that’s just a metaphor. Meanwhile, he’s been a hardass against drugs, immigrants, and whistleblowers.
Of course, he works for Obama, so tonight’s blog is a criticism of Obama, too. He’s just as involved in this whole AP/Fox seizure of phone records thing.
The whole kerfuffle, it seems to me, is a tempest in a teapot. The Justice Department is authorized to investigate pretty much anybody they think is committing a crime, and I certainly wouldn’t put it past the folks at Fox News to commit crimes, even crimes like divulging State secrets, if they thought it would embarrass Obama.
And if they let Fox get away with divulging state secrets, how can they justify their continued persecution of Bradley Manning.
Anyway, even though most of the people in the USA have no idea what’s going on, and the whole thing may be no big deal, Eric Holder today issued a big apology. Not a Republican type apology, an “I’m sorry if you misconstrued what I said as being what I meant” type of thing. A real apology.
Which makes me disrespect him all the more.
There were two ways he could have gone and still had some cred. He could have said “I do not apologize. We’ve done nothing illegal and besides, James Rosen and all the other lowlife fuckwits over at Fox are dirtbag, anti-American, Kochsucking neo-Fascists. We are going to continue to investigate them and if we find anything juicy we are going to throw their asses into a hole deeper than Gitmo.”
The other statement he could have made that would have pleased me would have been “I resign.”
But no, he apologized like a wimpy little Democrat. Pathetic.
