Hillary’s Movie

Well, the Republicans, represented by Reince (The White Michael Steele) Priebus, are all sorts of pissed off about NBC and CNN making a biopic about Hillary Clinton, arguing that it is unpaid political advertising (which it is, no denying that) and saying they are not going to let those networks broadcast their debates.

Hillary, Back in Her Hippie Years

Talk about a boneheaded threat.  If the networks don’t carry the debates, their ratings will probably improve, and fewer people will see the debates, so America wins, and the only people who would lose would be the Republicans, so go ahead.

Or maybe the Republicans, being aware that most Americans, watching the last interminable series of Republican debates were not really impressed, want to minimize the viewing audience.

Certainly this year’s crew of contenders will have their Ooops moments, the You-becky-becky-stan-stans, their Moon Colonies  and their underground fences.  The fewer people who see those moments, the sooner they will be forgotten.

So, I don’t think the networks should back off on showing the movie.  But I think they should offer equal time.  It’s only fair.  Any candidate who wants to have a movie about their life, should have a movie about their life.  A few cute anecdotes from childhood, the epiphanous moment they decided to go into politics, the cute way they met their husband/wife, the rise to power with plenty of crowd scenes and waving flags, and montages with cross-country scenery, and rousing speeches.  It’s a good formula, with a sympathetic main character, it can make a great movie.

The big advantage of this is that then people would debate about the movies, which is much more pleasant and less likely to lead to family feuds than debating politics.
