It was a lovely day. Slow start to the day, I’m always up before every one else, Kindle is great for camping. Reading Don Quixote. Never read it before. It’s great.
Big debate, before we even got the canoe, was do we go over the weir or do we take the quiet little stream around the back of the island. But the guy said no problem and we went for it and it was a fun little water slide.
It was a much easier trip than the one we did last year. First, it was a much shorter distance, just 9 kilometers. But also, although we did bump over a lot of rocks, last year we actually got grounded several times. There was depth enough to float, and there was current.
It was hard to really feel in the countryside, in a way, with the line of rented canoes moving down the river in unison, some stopping at the restaurant, we stopped for a brief swim but I was the only one who got in.. but everybody was in the same stream, so it was traffic, it was urban, but still, it was quiet, both banks were green and beautiful, occasionally a little cottage, some cows…
Then we had some ice cream and took a train back to the camp.
Then we went for pizza to celebrate Helena’s name day. Sam and I shared a Frutti di Mare pizza, and it was his first taste of octopus, and crab, and oysters. He tried and liked them all.
