After a weekend of getting nothing at all done, I had a busy, complicated Monday, with zero chance of getting anything done, except my job, of course, which should count for something, I guess, but I am in a bit of a rut with teaching and would like to focus more on my writing, unless of course I could get back to the whole having-a-school-and-teaching-group-lessons-where-the-students-come-to-me situation, but even though, I wasn’t exactly revolutionizing education, there probably is no magic formula to force knowledge into the minds of people who totally don’t want to learn.
I got a bit sarcastic with a few of my 6th graders today and I feel guilty about it, there were three or four of them who got that treatment where I would stand right over them and berate them for not having registered something I’d just said two seconds before, and then just now I watched a video from Cracked (I’m not really a huge fan of Cracked, they just put together lists and aren’t really funny like they used to be, but I still watch them, sometimes they come up with a gem) about comics putting down hecklers, and it made me cringe because I sympathized with the hecklers, they paid good money to be entertained and then they’ve got some guy berating them from the stage and mostly saying “fuck, fuck, fuck, motherfucker, you’ve got a tiny dick, you’re a stupid bitch” and the audience is laughing like that’s something hysterical and I realized that’s kind of what I was doing to those poor kids, who, in my defense, really were asking for it.
Anyway, talking about the writing, though, I’ve got several projects going on in various stages. Two poetry books which are more or less completed, the 1st one is just a poetry book like all the other poetry books I’ve written, I’ll make a polite announcement here and on facebook, and if anyone wants to buy it they’ll buy it, but the 2nd one is a major work, I’m seriously proud of it, I think I’ve done something nobody else has done, and once that’s ready I intend to plug the shit out of it, people will be calling me a spammer and all.
The next project after that is a biography of a friend of mine who’s got a lot of the typical expat stories and some that aren’t so typical at all because he’s a wildass old hippie with a bit of a messiah complex and a habit of attracting people who are even dodgier than he is himself. I’m having a lot of fun writing it but the project is still in the stage where it is growing and growing and I’m not even up to the trimming and pruning phase.
Then we’ve got a couple of translation projects that have been on hold forever. I’ve no idea when we’ll get to them. Life is busy. Life is full. Life is good.
