In the department of “Well, maybe I spoke too soon” yesterday’s blog said that maybe we’re being a bit oversensitive and maybe we shouldn’t scream “racism!” every time somebody makes a mildly non-PC but relatively benign comment (with regards to Governor Chris “Krispy Kreme” Christie referring to “the African-American woman” who was blocking his bill despite the fact that he knew her name perfectly well).
But we fed them and gave them shelter…
No matter how low you set the bar, however, the belly-crawling, mud-loving, ankle-biting spawn of the devil who form the core of today’s Republican party will find a way to slither under it. Yesterday at CPAC, the national festival of all who are opposed to the Kenyan Muslim Usurper Barack Hussein Obama well beyond any degree of rationality, one of the attendees stood up and made a comment about what a wonderful thing slavery was. Really, watch the video. He said they should have been grateful for being given food and shelter.
To be fair, he wasn’t a Republican office holder, just a guy in the crowd. Also, the majority of the crowd sensed immediately that he had said something unbelievably, insanely racist. I particularly enjoyed the expression on the face of the girl in the blue sweater.
However, their expressions of shock faded into nervous laughter and heads being shook. Nobody said “Get out of here, you asshole,” nor did anybody stand up and walk out, screaming over their shoulder as they left “I can’t support you assholes any longer!” The conference went on and Klan boy was left feeling pretty good about himself, it looked like.
CPAC is not a fringe group within the Republican party. Mitt Romney spoke at the conference, as did Marco Rubio and pretty much everybody else who’s anybody in Republican politics. Without conservatives, the Republican party would not exist. CPAC is the Republican party.
Yet, stuff like this is acceptable within CPAC. The Republicans have a serious problem.
