Since the dawn of mankind, people have admired other animals for attributes they have which we lack, and tried to emulate them. We covered ourselves in animal skins because they kept out the cold so much better than our own nearly hairless flesh, we honed flint to a fine point and made knives, and later spears and swords, because we do not have claws like the lions and the
tigers, we dreamed of flying like the birds and eventually we achieved even that, and much more.Natural evolution has always pointed the way for artificial evolution, aka technological development. Dogs can hear better than we can, but we have telephones and television and can hear people talking clear as a bell thousands of miles away or from 50 years ago. Cats can see better than us in the dark, but we have telescopes in space that can see for billions and billions of miles.
The animal kingdom, however, is incredibly diverse. There are still some things we cannot do. Regard, the humble sea slug, with his detachable penis. Actually, it’s much more complicated than that. They are hermaphroditic, so when they have sex, each partner is using its penis to insert in the other one’s vagina, so they are not only capable of enjoying sex as a man or a woman, but they do both at the same time. And, it’s so intense that their penis drops off afterwards. But then, they grow another one.
It might be a little bit scary for human beings, the whole bit about your dinkie falling off is particularly frightening from a male perspective, but there would be advantages.
I don’t expect anybody to invent one of these for people anytime soon, but eventually somebody will. We emulate the animals and anything that can be built eventually will be built.
