Republican presidential candidates are dropping like flies. Huckabee dropped out of the race yesterday and today it’s Donald Trump. I was glad to see Huck go, he was a serious candidate

and, if elected, would undoubtedly have inflicted great pain and anguish on America and the world. Trump was a comedy gold mine with no chance of ever getting elected. I will miss his presence in the race.
Not that there’s any shortage of comedy in the Republican field. Jokes about Michele Bachmann’s crazy eyes are getting a bit tired, but if she jumps into the race there is still plenty of untapped comedy in her husband, who is one of those Republicans, like Ted Haggard, who believes you can pray the gay away. Then, of course, we’ve still got Ron “Gold Standard” Paul, Newt “Greatest Living Hypocrite, and that’s saying something” Gingrich and Rick “Santorum” Santorum. Trump will be missed but there are plenty of others willing to pick up the crazy flag and run with it.
I’ve lived in Europe 12 years now. It’s just been about 4 years since I’ve been even slightly interested in European football. But, my kid plays, so I’ve had to watch a lot of games, and it grows on you. The action is much more fluid than American football, every confrontation over the ball is a battle, a two man test of skill and determination, and you can actually see the players. With American football, you could put two teams of robots in the field in football gear and nobody would notice the difference. You can’t see their faces.
One other thing – soccer players are normal sized people.
We watched all of the Czech games in World Cup hockey this year (Congrats on the bronze, Czechs!). Like soccer players, hockey players tend not to be 2 meters tall and weigh 300 pounds. I realized yesterday, while watching Finland crush Sweden in the final, why this is. It came to me in a sudden flash.
Lower center of gravity. Better balance while skating, and better for puck handling.
As an average sized person, I think soccer and hockey are now my favorite sports.
