There is no God

Not much to say, I’ve spent the weekend in a very long facebook discussion about the existence of God (or not), which was interesting for awhile but, basically, everybody’s already got their minds made up and nothing short of a lightning strike is likely to change it.

I hate the comments, though, about how wonderful it is that we can all discuss this rationally and respect each others opinions.  Fuck that.  I don’t respect other people’s opinions, I just know that if I were open about that I’d lose the argument and piss everybody off.

When I get into an argument with somebody it’s because I think I’m right and they’re wrong, and I assume they think the  same or they wouldn’t be arguing with me.

I wanted to go out hunting mushrooms this afternoon but Helena wasn’t feeling well.  She suggested the kids and I just take a train out of town by ourselves, but the kids were not keen on the idea and it’s probably just as well, since when I walked down to the store later this afternoon I got caught in a sudden (but brief) downpour.

So, we played Monopoly.  The kids got a bit miffed at me because I kept referring to Boardwalk and Park Place and Marvin Gardens and such.  We were playing the Czech version, of course, and they’ve never heard those names.  Sam won despite our giving Isabel lots of side help and extra chances, because she cries whenever she loses at anything.  She’s 6 and doesn’t show much indication of growing out of it yet.  I expect she will grow up to be Chewbacca.

I’m really glad Larry Summers has withdrawn his name for Fed chairman.  I think it is, in a way, similar to the Syria debate.  Now that the public debate takes place on Facebook and other sites, trends in public opinion form with the speed of tornadoes, and can have a similarly devastating force.  Once he became a subject of debate, it became clear that nobody, with the exception of the President, had anything good to say about the guy.

Another big topic on my facebook page is the Poetry Plagiarism Scandal. Most of us are in agreement on that, that plagiarist poets are worthless pieces of shit. I doubt there will be serious repercussions in the real world, however.  It’s only poetry.  It ain’t baseball.
