Well, last night was a rousing good hockey match, a back and forth nail biter in the quarterfinals of the world hockey championship between the Czech Republic (Češi do toho!) and Sweden, which we won 4-3 on a goal with less than 30 seconds left in the game. So, we’ll play Slovakia on Saturday and the winner will go against the winner of the Russia-Finland match, so I’d say there’s about a 25% chance of winning the whole thing. I am proud of my adopted country.
Hypocritical Scumbag Joe Ricketts
Normally, I am not a big sports fan. I enjoy the Olympics, I get into the competitive spirit watching my 9 year old son’s football games, and I appreciate the artistry involved in figure skating and gymnastics, but that’s about it. Pro sports do not interest me at all.
That’s because it’s a rigged game. Whichever team shells out the most money for the star players will win. I feel like I am watching a corporate bidding war, presented with a lot of theatrics and costumes.
Some people like it, though, so fair enough. Good for them. I don’t have any favorite teams, but there are none I really had any good reason to hate, either…until today.
Fuck the Chicago Cubs. I hope their fans desert them, they lose all their games, and Wrigley fucking Field gets hit by lightning and burns to the ground. I saw that they lost to the White Sox today and I was happy about it.
Here’s the reason: Billionaire Joe Ricketts, head of the Ricketts family which owns the Chicago Cubs, put up 10 million dollars to buy attack ads against Barack Obama, specifically dredging up the old Reverend Wright bullshit. He’s a big Romney supporter. Maybe it’s because Obama would like to raise taxes on billionaires like himself a tiny bit, or maybe it’s all that government spending on things like welfare and medicare. Big government is a big problem, you know. On the other hand, Joe Ricketts wants the city of Chicago to help pay for improvements to Wrigley Field, to the tune of $100 million.
Eat shit, Joe. Fix your own damned stadium.
