The Party of Stupid

Bobby Jindal, idiot governor of the great state of Louisiana, said a few days ago that “Republicans need to stop being the stupid party.”

I would agree that in most fields of human endeavor, politics not excepted, it’s best not to be the stupid one.  Whether you are working in an office, or at a University, or as a waitress or a clerk or a cop, it’s best not to be known as “the stupid one.”

Anyway, it’s all a bit rich coming from Piyush “Bobby” Jindal,  who named himself after Bobby Brady, because you can’t get more American than that.  In college, when a girl came onto him -hard to imagine, but I don’t know if the girl was a super hottie, either – he rounded up his Christian posse and tried to give her an exorcism.  That’s the dumbest move since Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels turned down a ride on the Swedish Bikini Team’s bus.  As governor, he will always be remembered as the guy who tried to privatize education.  That’s not just a question of spending  priorities.  That’s just dumb.

But, he said it, he called the whole Republican party stupid, and he was right.

Karl Rove even agreed with  him.  “Jindal’s right,” he said.

But can the Republicans stop being the stupid party?  Can they stop their members from demanding armed guards in schools and resisting background checks and objecting to perfectly reasonable limits on the kind of  weapons people can carry?  No, they can’t.

We must be...less stupider!

We must be…less stupider!

Can they expect ignorant old Republican men to refrain from saying things like “legitimate rape” and “rape babies are a gift from God?” No, they can’t.

Can they keep their rank and file voters from hanging chairs in trees and forwarding “funny” e-mails with watermelons on the White House lawn?  No, they can’t.

Can they stop zealous Christian conservatives, at least one of whom happens to be a U.S. Congressman from Georgia, from saying things like “evolution and climate change are lies straight from the pit of hell?” No, they can’t.

Can they stop their supporters from saying comically ignorant things like “Keep  your government hands off my  Medicare!” No, they can’t.

Because those people ARE the Republican party.
