The Great River of Stupid Keeps Rolling Along

Blustering fat fool and Pillsbury Dough Boy lookalike Newt Gingrich was back in the news this week, for not one but two comically stupid statements.  First, he endorsed and affirmed the stupid and rather insensitive statement of squirrel eatin’ tent preacher Mike Huckabee, who said the reason for the Sandy Hook massacre is that God has been

removed from public schools.  First of all, God has had no place in American public schools since the beginning of America.  Christianity is not the official national religion, great  numbers of Americans are not Christian, and those Americans who are can get just as  much God and Jesus as they want to in church where, last I heard, there was plenty of room.  Secondly, if God is such a petulant loser that he’d let a whole bunch of kids get killed because people aren’t worshiping him enough,  then fuck God.  (I don’t actually believe in God but, if that’s the God you believe in, seriously, he’s an asshole)

The reason for the Sandy Hook massacre is that an insane person had access to serious firepower and decided he’d like to kill a lot of people.  Whether we believe in them or not, crazy people do exist.

Secondly, Gingrich said that he would have done better than Mitt Romney against Barack  Obama.  I don’t think so.  Mitt Romney lost because most people realized what a bunch of crazy whacked out right wingers Republicans really are, and Mitt Romney was the least crazy and whacked out of the bunch.  There was Gingrich, with his flaky 3rd wife and his corruption issues, Perry with his maple syrup meanderings and his bouts of forgetfulness, Bachmann’s confusion about American history and the difference between John Wayne and John Wayne Gacy, Santorum, whose only issue was  “I hate homos,” and Herman Cain and Ron Paul.  Compared to that lineup, Mitt Romney was downright  stellar.

(An argument could be made for Ron Paul  but I’m not going to make it.  Even the Republicans thought he was nuts, and that’s going some.)

No, Newt, the Republicans nominated the only guy who had even half a chance.  He lost and the world is a better place for it.  Now, shut up and go away.
